What topics are used for

Topics describe the subject matter of a piece of content. For example, a content item can be assigned to a topic such as "Content Marketing", "Digitalization", "Products" or "Events".

This assignment makes it easier to filter, plan, and analyze content later on. Topics can also be included in reports to identify which editorial focus areas have been covered most frequently.

Understanding the topic list

The topic overview displays all existing topics. The table shows the topic name, assigned stakeholders, a description, the active status, and the usage count.

The "Usage" column indicates whether and how often a topic has been used. This is helpful when checking whether a topic is still relevant or already appears in existing content.

Creating new topics

You can create a new topic by selecting "Add topic". Here, you enter the topic name and, if necessary, a description. You can also assign relevant stakeholders.

The description helps other users correctly categorize the topic and use it consistently.

Nesting topics

Topics in Storydriver can also be organized hierarchically. This allows you to map out main topics and their corresponding sub-topics.

This is particularly useful when a topic area is very broad. For instance, a general topic like "Digitalization" might encompass several sub-topics, such as specific products, target groups, technologies, or communication occasions.

Nesting topics keeps the topic structure organized without requiring every topic to sit on the same level. This allows for more precise content categorization while maintaining the overarching structure.

Setting topics to active or inactive

A topic can be set to active or inactive. Active topics are available for content planning and processing. Inactive topics are retained but are no longer actively used for new assignments.

This is useful when a topic is still needed for historical records but is not intended for future use.

Summary

Topics form a key structural element in Storydriver. They help categorize content consistently, highlight editorial focus areas, and enable subsequent analysis based on topics.
