Getting Started with the Clipmanager

The Clipmanager is the workspace where you collect, review, edit, and prepare clippings for further use.

The Clipmanager is the workspace where you collect, review, edit, and prepare clippings for further use. A clipping is an individual media item - such as an online article, a print piece, or an excerpt imported from media monitoring. While other areas like Media Monitoring or Media Intelligence focus primarily on finding and analyzing items, the Clipmanager is designed for the long-term management and further processing of selected items.

Purpose of the Clipmanager

Use the Clipmanager when you want to actively work with the items you have found, rather than just viewing them. Clippings can be collected, evaluated, filtered, archived, tagged, or prepared for a press review, for example.

This area is particularly well-suited for workflows that involve creating a curated selection from a large number of individual media items. It allows you to consolidate relevant articles from various sources and utilize them effectively later on.

Collecting and managing clippings

Clippings can be added to the Clipmanager in several ways. You can create new clippings manually or import items from other areas of myconvento, such as Media Intelligence and Media Monitoring. Additionally, clippings can be imported via PMG XML if that interface is part of your workflow.

This makes the Clipmanager a central hub for items relevant to analyses, press reviews, or further editorial processing.

Reviewing and editing clippings

A key function of the Clipmanager is the post-processing of individual items. Clippings can be reviewed and marked as either "edited" or "unedited," making it easy to track which items have been checked and which are still pending.

Depending on your workflow, you can also enrich clippings with additional information - such as topics, sentiment, or other evaluation criteria. This ensures that individual items are not merely collected but are also optimized for future analysis.

Using filters

The Clipmanager offers extensive filtering options. You can narrow down clippings by criteria such as publication date, creation date, processing status, channel, source, archive status, search term, sentiment, medium, author, or topics.

These filters are particularly useful when a large number of clippings accumulate over time. Instead of manually searching the entire collection, you can specifically display the items that are currently relevant to your task.

Using the Watchlist

The watchlist allows you to temporarily collect selected clippings. This is useful if you want to review several items first and process them together later.

You can mark clippings and add them to the watchlist. They are then available as a group - for example, for further actions or export. The watchlist helps you make a selection without permanently altering the original list.

Processing Multiple Clippings at Once

Many functions in the Clipmanager can be applied to multiple selected clippings. You can select individual items or multiple items using checkboxes. You can then perform shared actions via the "More Actions" menu.

These actions include, for example, marking items as processed or unprocessed, archiving them, adding them to the watchlist, or exporting them. These batch actions save time when you regularly work with large volumes of clippings.

Preparing Press Reviews

A key use case for the Clipmanager is creating press reviews. You can compile clippings for an edition in the "Press Review" section. Additionally, functions for Word templates, placeholders, and standard templates are available.

This allows you to turn a collection of individual items into a structured press review that can be shared internally or externally. The specific process of creating and designing press reviews is described in a separate help article.

Settings and Structure

The Clipmanager also offers settings that allow you to tailor your workflow to your specific requirements. These include functions for managing KPIs and topics, among other things.

These settings help ensure that clippings are evaluated and structured consistently. This promotes a consistent way of working, especially when multiple users or larger teams are involved.

Recommended Starting Point

If you are new to the Clipmanager, it is best to start with a simple task: open the overview, filter some existing clippings, and check what information is displayed for each item. Then, try selecting a few clippings to see which actions are available via the watchlist and the "More Actions" menu. Once you are familiar with the basic logic, you can selectively import and edit clippings, as well as prepare them for press reviews or analyses.

Summary

The Clipmanager serves as the central workspace for items that need to be collected, reviewed, and processed further. Here, you manage clippings from various sources, update their status and ratings, use filters to refine your selection, and compile specific items for press reviews or exports as needed. In this way, the Clipmanager integrates research, media monitoring, and editorial processing into a single, unified environment.
